Cilantro lime steamed radishes (30 min. meal)

Cilantro lime steamed radishes 

If you have never had steamed radishes, you are really missing a treat.  When you steam (boil, bake) radishes, they mellow in flavor and take on an almost nutty flavor.
I had a 1 lb. bag of radishes that I needed to use soon.  I also had some cilantro that needed to be used.
I came up with this super easy, but super tasty side dish.  It can all be made in under 30 minutes too.

Ingredients


1 lb. red radishes, tips and stem sliced off, and radish cut in half
1/2 tsp. onion powder
1/8 to 1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper

2 tsp. garlic paste (caramelized garlic that has been blended)(if you don't have any, you can finely chop 4-5 cloves of garlic)
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1/3 cup chopped cilantro




Start by preparing your radishes.  Trim them and wash well.  Place them into a steamer basket, and place on the stove with about 2c water.  (I have the little metal steamer that you put into a pot, and cover)


Bring to a boil, and reduce to medium high.  Cover and steam for 20 minutes. While they are steaming, get the rest of your ingredients ready.

After 20 minutes, remove from heat, and remove the steamer into a medium size saute pan.  



Turn the heat on to medium high, and add the garlic (paste or fresh).



Stir to combine all the garlic into the radishes.  

Add the onion powder, and stir well.



Next, add the salt, pepper, and pepper flakes.  Stir well.


Finally, add the lime juice and cilantro.  Stir well, and continue to cook for another 4-5 minutes.





Remove from heat, and serve right away.  You can double this recipe, and it will last a couple days in the fridge.  It tastes really good cold too. :)

  1. What an easy recipe! Never knew you could cook up radishes like this!! It really is cool! Will definitely be trying the recipe as soon as the season for radishes comes.
